SSRG is proud to have performed the restoration of the historic Louisville Water Station, which has won a 2011 Excellence in Construction Award. This award recognizes the “best of the best” in construction by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Ohio Valley Chapter.
The Louisville Water Company was formed in 1854 and its pump station was built to resemble a Greek temple and began pumping water in 1860.
No longer a functioning water pumping facility, the water station and its 169-foot tower were named National Historic Landmarks in 1971. The property is still owned by the Louisville Water Company but is currently leased by the Louisville Visual Arts Association and is used for exhibits and events.
The restoration of the pumping station involved masonry repairs, cast iron repair, a new slate roof, exterior painting; repair, cleaning and rebuilding of the terracotta capitals, and other exterior repairs.
